How to Buy the Right Wine

Wine is an ideal beverage for a variety of occasions, but it can be difficult to know how to choose the right one. There are numerous factors to consider when picking out a wine. Here are some tips that can make it easier.

Group Size

Wine is a fantastic refreshment for get-togethers, but this also means buying in quantity. The more people there are, the more wine you’ll need. Plan for each person to have two six-ounce servings. A standard 750ml bottle of wine contains four of these. A one-liter bottle contains six, and a 1.5 liter bottle contains eight.

Cost

If you’re providing drinks for a group, it can get expensive unless you’re careful. This is where it becomes helpful to buy in large quantities. In general, a 1.5 liter bottle of wine will be cheaper per serving than a 750ml bottle. If there are enough people attending, it’s often better to buy a five-liter box. Don’t be too worried about quality, either. There is hardly any difference between expensive wines and cheaper ones flavor-wise, so you may as well save your money and choose something less fancy.

Preference

When buying wine, it’s important to consider the individual tastes of your guests. Some people prefer either white or red wine, and others would rather have a particular variety. If you can, ask peoples’ preferences before hand. If that’s not an option, it’s recommended to buy a couple popular varieties of both red and white wines.

Occasion

Any wine can be used to celebrate any occasion or party. However, it can make a momentous occasion seem even more so if you choose an extra-special wine. They will cost more and you may have to search a little harder to find them, but they can be worth it. Some good suggestions are meads, imported wines, ice wines and agave wines.
